Formation

Chapter in Formation Guidelines

A group of at least six people desiring to form a Chapter should give evidence to a member of the Order of a desire to live according to The Rule. The member of the Order informs the President of the Provincial Council and the Provincial Promoter of this intention as soon as possible.

Dominican Spirituality: Principles and Practice

The Dominican enters the Order of Friars Preachers to save his soul. He could have saved it outside the Order, but, once he takes vows, must save it through the spirituality of the Order. Nothing could be more vital for him, therefore, than to understand Dominican spirituality.

optional formation program

Eternal life, on earth and in heaven, is the end and purpose of every man. Our Savior instituted the sacraments and founded the Church as the means by which all men can receive grace and be lead to glory. All the other elements of our spiritual lives the sacramentals, prayer, mortification, etc.-flow from and lead back to the celebration of the sacraments, especially the Eucharist.

Pillars of Dominican Life

By Fr. Michael Hurley, O.P.

lay Provincial Formation: year 1

During the first year, you begin the first stage of formation known as Postulancy, (or for some chapters it is known as "inquiry"). For the next year you will be learning the fundamentals of the Order of Preachers.

lay Provincial Formation: year 2

During this year of Candidacy (Novitiate), the new members continue to discern their vocations and begin to practice the daily obligations. They also become more involved in chapter life and continue to commit to the Dominican life of study. The focus of study for year two is on the Beatitudes.
